openbox-menu software package provides openbox pipe-menu to display entries in *.desktop files, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install openbox-menu
openbox-menu is installed in your system.
Make ensure the openbox-menu package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep openbox-menu *
You will get with openbox-menu package name, version, architecture and description in a table
